Ellenberger caught his foot in the fence, and was punched while trying to free it. After pausing the fight, referee Herb Dean asked state officials whether this counted as a cage malfunction (which could mean a timeout or no contest), and was told it did not. Ellenberger tried to appeal the decision, but the Nevada Athletic Commission dismissed it. [ 13 ]
